Job summary

Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Kitchen Steward to set up and maintain the kitchen, clean equipment, and act as a buffet runner and carver during events. The role may include light food prep and supporting the retail and catering teams.

The successful candidate will hold Food Safe Certification, have strong time management, teamwork, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, mornings and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• Food Safe Certification required.
• Hepatitis A vaccination or proof of immunity required.
• Interest in food service and kitchen processes.
• Good time management and multi-tasking.
• Able to read, write and communicate well.
• Good teamwork skills with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to perform in fast paced high pressure environments.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a fast paced kitchen environment.
• Safe handling and grasping of various kitchen utensils is required.
• Ability to safely lift items weighing up to 20 kg., while reaching and stretching.

Responsibilities

• Set up, clean and organize all dishes and kitchen equipment in Café and outlet kitchen areas and assist with events.
• Clean and organize all dishes and equipment in banquet kitchen and storage areas.
• Assist with event set up and light food prep when required (peeling/chopping vegetables and fruits).
• Close duties: clean and sanitize the dishwasher and surrounding areas; sanitize work stations; sweep and mop floors; manage waste and organize coolers/freezers.
• Receive deliveries; verify product against packing slips; contact suppliers for discrepancies; coordinate distribution of products to departments.
• Coordinate shipping needs for other departments and maintain shipping records.
