Job Title: Summer Student – Event Assistant

Position Type: Full-Time (35 hrs/week), Temporary (8 weeks)

Wage: $18.00/hour

Anticipated Start Date: June 30, 2025

About the Role:

The Vancouver Island Exhibition (VIEx) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Event Assistant to join our team for the summer through the Canada Summer Jobs program. You will work closely with the Office Administrator and VIEx team to support daily operations and assist in the preparation and execution of the 2025 VIEx Fair. This is a great opportunity for students interested in administrative support, event operations, or nonprofit work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general office administration, including email correspondence, data entry, and filing
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Accept and process payments in the office
  • Help maintain accurate event documentation, scheduling, and timelines
  • Assist with social media content creation and online communication
  • Support the setup and on-site execution of the VIEx Fair (some evenings/weekends in August and during Fair Weekend may be required)
  • Provide general support to the VIEx team as needed

Qualifications:

  • Must meet eligibility for the Canada Summer Jobs program:
  • o Be between the ages of 19–30 at the start of employment
  • o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
  • o Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • o Must be a student (currently enrolled or returning to studies in the fall)
  • Interest in event planning, nonprofit work, marketing, or community development
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; experience with Canva or social media platforms is a bonus
  • Willingness to pitch in wherever needed and bring a positive, can-do attitude

Employment Term:

June 30 – August 30, 2025

Preference will be given to candidates available to return and work Fair Weekend: September 19, 20, & 21 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
