Your Role

Reporting to the Head of Residence, the Evening Residence Counsellor – Front Desk plays a key role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of boarding students while supporting the smooth daily operations of Residence.

Shift

Monday to Friday 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This position works in a residence (homelike environment).

Residence is a multi-story building therefore moving between floors is required. Travel is required to take students to and from the airport, appointments, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a compassionate, respectful, and safe environment for students while providing guidance, support, and healthy boundaries
  • Chaperone students to meals, classes, activities, and events, ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Collaborate with Residence leadership and Child & Youth Counsellors to support daily operations and student needs
  • Administer medications in line with policies and respond promptly to incidents, completing required reports
  • Manage reception duties: greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, handling correspondence, and maintaining a safe, professional space
  • Track and communicate attendance, absences, and appointments, liaising with parents and staff as required
  • Coordinate schedules and appointments across departments on behalf of students
  • Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving in consultation with colleagues and Residence leadership
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when communicating with parents, staff, and medical professionals
  • Assist with managing student accounts and other administrative responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Relevant diploma in Child Youth Work, Social Work, Child Studies or equivalent (i.e. psychology, sociology) and 2+ years of directly-related work experience working with children in a residential setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively manage communications with parents
  • Ability to complete tasks with a high degree of attention to detail
  • Proficient technical skills including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and G-suite
  • Work well in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use public transportation to take students to / from appointments
  • Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse / Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department at NBS
