Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking an Estimator to lead small to medium estimates, analyze contract documents, and prepare detailed quantity takeoffs.

You will support the lead estimator, manage bid forms, and coordinate with subtrades to secure competitive pricing. The role requires strong knowledge of construction estimating, experience with multiple delivery methods, and the ability to mentor a small team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• 4 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, and 6 months of on-site experience is preferred.
• Successfully led pursuits valued at up to $25 million in various delivery methods.
• General construction knowledge; understands specifications, drawings, materials, and methods and procedures.
• Intermediate knowledge of bid preparation; quantity takeoff, subtrade procurement, pricing, bid-closing procedures.
• Understanding of market conditions, competitors, and compensation models.
• Familiar with delivering methods: hard bid, GMP, unit price, design-build, target prices, reimbursable.
• Ability to establish relationships with stakeholders and solicit subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software and advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads small to medium estimates or components of large estimates and reviews all bid documents.
• Conducts detailed analysis of contract documents and specifications to determine and validate project requirements.
• Ensures the completion of full quantity take-offs of labor, equipment, and materials from project documents.
• Supports the estimate lead by populating tender forms and requests for information.
• Recognizes risks related to site, schedule and market conditions; uses contracts to identify risks and opportunities.
• Maintains bid documentation and archives for transfer to project teams.
• Performs bid-day assignments and supports other estimators to close scopes.
• Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders including lead estimator and suppliers.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit support.
• Establishes a critical path schedule for the estimate/pursuit.
• Leads a small team including mentoring and coaching indirect reports.
