Job summary

Aecon Concessions, based in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to develop accurate cost estimates for major Western Canadian civil projects such as roads, bridges and dams. You will analyze drawings and specs, gather supplier pricing, and prepare tender submissions from our Vancouver office with travel to project sites as needed.

The role requires at least 10 years in civil construction, strong MS Excel/Word skills, and familiarity with estimating software.

Reporting to the Pre‑Construction Director, we are seeking a results‑driven Heavy Civil Estimator to join our team and play a key role in delivering complex infrastructure projects across Western Canada. In this role, you will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for large‑scale civil works including roads, bridges, dams, and earthworks while collaborating closely with operations, engineering and project teams. This position will sit out of our downtown Vancouver office with travel to project sites as needed.

What You’ll Do Here:
  • Responsible for accuracy of bid cost to actual cost of work performed.
  • Analyze documents, drawings, specifications, proposals and addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Perform any estimate related to oral and/or written communications with clients/partners.
  • Preparation of construction plans for the various projects for internal and client submissions.
  • Review project site prior to price preparation.
  • Perform quantity take‑off from construction drawings where applicable.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, compiling information into estimate.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission – labor, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts.
  • Oversee distribution of appropriate documentation upon award of project.
  • Perform post‑bid/post‑project analysis completion and ensure associated learning and communication occur.
  • Assist with RFPs and general contract tender submissions.
  • Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs and RFIs as required.
  • Incorporate and comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Protect all forms of proprietary information.
  • Maintain estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in civil construction, including experience leading complex civil infrastructure projects or bids, as an estimator or project manager.
  • University degree, college diploma or trades background—or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents.
  • Good knowledge of job‑cost fundamentals for typical items and scopes where design and/or schematics are provided.
  • Demonstrated computer software proficiency – MS Excel/Word.
  • Experience with estimating software is considered an asset.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time and formulate plans to meet multiple deadlines within a high‑pressure work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Able to travel to project sites in Canada as needed.

The expected pay range for this role is $120,000 – $160,000 per year.
