Your Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for a sector leadership position as the Mining Sector Representative for the Environmental Services (ES) Business Operating Unit in Ontario. This project leadership and business development focused role will support the top line growth of business within the mining sector. The Mining Sector Representative will work directly with the Business Center Practice Leaders (BCPLs) in Ontario, as well as the Canadian Mining Sector Leader, and will also work collaboratively with Stantec’s Environmental Services Sector Team who has representation across Canada. The successful candidate will help set the vision for how the environmental sector services practice will grow its mining sector business within Ontario.

While 40% of the role is expected to be dedicated to the Ontario Mine Sector Leader role, 60% of the role will be focused on technical work and leadership within the Mining Sector. The successful candidate will have a degree in a technical discipline relevant to the Mining Sector and work within multi‑disciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, rehabilitation projects, and projects related to their technical expertise. The role will involve managing multi‑discipline scopes of work within a team of technical experts and interacting directly with clients. Strong quantitative skills within their technical discipline and the ability to provide overarching strategic advice within the Mining Sector are required. As this is a combined position, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Team Lead within their applicable technical discipline.

This position can be based anywhere in Ontario and will require periodic travel within Ontario to other Stantec offices, in addition to client offices as required.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Working with your ES colleagues to develop and execute a mining sector growth strategy
  • Lead the Ontario Environmental Services (Business Centre 1609) based mining team
  • Drive client outreach (internally & externally)
  • Lead and coordinate proposal development, proposal debriefs, backlog tracking, and client surveys
  • Host client events (i.e., training seminars)
  • Attend industry events, such as conferences and/or tradeshows
  • Assist BCPLs with business plans and work with the leadership team to achieve key performance indicators
  • Coordinate with the Mining Business Operating Unit on opportunities
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the national business strategy for Environmental Services, with accountability for Ontario region‑specific strategies and priorities
  • Lead growth in revenue and document progress through the use of action registers, financial progress reporting, among other metrics
  • Assist leadership with the training and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff to respond to proposal requests, liaising with clients, project scoping, and other business development initiatives
  • Engage in technical project work, including project leadership, within your scope of technical expertise as required to support the project execution teams
  • Design and oversee the implementation of field investigations and preparation of technical reports and client presentations
  • Travel as required to various field sites with overnight travel sometimes required
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario environmental services market and the Ontario mining sector (including all stages of the mining life cycle) - experience at an operating site would be an asset
  • An entrepreneurial orientation with a strong understanding of the key elements required for successful business development

  • Possess a strong knowledge of Ontario and federal mining‑related water resources acts, regulations, policies and guidance and knowledge of mineral exploration methods, mine waste disposal methods and mineral processing methods
  • Be recognized as a subject matter expert by your peers for your discipline
Education and Experience

University degree with at least 20 years of professional experience

Existing professional registration (i.e., P.Geo or P.Eng.) if applicable to your area of technical expertise

Experience leading environmental support for mining projects of significant size and/or complexity, ideally in Ontario

Experience building and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues, clients, agencies, and Indigenous communities

Seasoned project delivery experience, ideally in consulting services

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
