Job summary

Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc invites applications for the Equipment Operator III position in the Planning and Engineering department. The role is full-time and permanent, focused on operating and maintaining dump trucks, backhoes and excavators for public works projects in a safety-conscious environment.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, equipment maintenance, plowing and sanding, transportation of materials, and assisting with light repairs.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 education or equivalent with 3–4 years' heavy equipment experience.
  • 2–3 years driving straight trucks; 1–2 years tandem axle tractor experience.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Valid Standard First Aid ticket.
  • WHMIS training/certificate.
  • Valid Class 1 with air driver's license; clean driving record.
  • Prefer WCB Work Safe Training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain dump trucks, backhoes and excavators for public works.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections of tires, lights, brakes and fluids.
  • Report tools/equipment not in good repair.
  • Operate light/heavy equipment including Bobcat loaders as assigned.
  • Follow safety practices within the Public Works Department.
  • Complete plowing and sanding.
  • Oversee vehicle condition, loading/unloading and cargo safety.
  • Transport goods on straight trucks and tandem tractors over urban routes.
  • Move snow using plows and sanders.
  • Shape land and complete landscaping and other projects.
  • Load trucks and complete grading.
  • Assist in mechanical servicing and light repairs.
  • Follow TteS policies; maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as necessary.

JOB POSTING
POSITION TITLE: Equipment Operator III
DEPARTMENT: Planning and Engineering
SUPERVISOR: Public Works Foreman
TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent

Purpose Of Position

The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain light and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoe and excavators to shape and move land for public works projects in accordance with safety practices within TteS Public Works Department.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Operates and maintains dump trucks, backhoes and excavators to ensure appropriate services for the residents of TteS.(95%)
  • Perform pre-trip inspection of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes and fluid levels.
  • Reports any tools and equipment that are not in good repair.
  • Operates various pieces of light and heavy equipment as assigned including but not limited to dump trucks, excavators, front end loaders, Bobcat Loaders and farm.
  • Performs safe operating and maintenance practices and procedures related to the equipment with in the Public Works Department.
  • Completes plowing and sanding.
  • Overseys all aspects of vehicles, such as condition of equipment, loading and unloading, and safety and security of cargo.
  • Operates and drive straight trucks and Tandem tractor with multi axle trailer combinations to transport goods and materials over urban and short inter-urban routes.
  • Operates and drive straight trucks fitted with snow plough blades and road sanders to remove snow from roads, streets and parking lots.
  • Shapes land and completes landscaping and other projects as necessary.
  • Loads trucks and completes grading.
  • Assists in mechanical servicing and light repair of equipment.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the TteS.
  • Other related duties as necessary. (5%)
Professional Certification, Education And Experience
  • Must have grade 10 education or equivalent and previous maintenance and equipment operator (3-4 years) with a backhoe, grader and front end loaders and (2-3) years experience driving straight truck and (1-2) years driving a Tandem axle tractor pulling multi axle trailers and basic mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Must posses a valid Standard First Aid ticket.
  • Must possess WHIMIS Training / Certificate.
  • Must possess valid current class 1 with air driver’s licence
  • Must possess and provide a current clean driver’s abstract.
  • Prefer WCB Work Safe Training.

  • Ability to work alone independently / unsupervised.
  • Good written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge of related codes involving Landfill operations.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Physically able to perform duties.
  • It is expected that all TteS employees be willing to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge, and to further their formal training.

HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

PAY GRADE: Starting at $22.59-$27.32/hour depending on education & experience
