Job summary

Government of New Brunswick’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure seeks an Equipment Operator for a seasonal role in Holmesville, NB. The successful candidate will report to the Highway Supervisor and handle heavy equipment operation, routine maintenance, and road safety tasks during the summer season.

Essential qualifications include Grade 10 and at least three years of heavy equipment experience, plus a valid Class 1 license with air brakes endorsement.

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade ten and a minimum of three years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class 1 driver's license with endorsement for air brakes.

Responsibilities

  • Operating and maintaining a grader, tandem truck, truck with trailer with air brakes and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performing various highway maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Performing normal maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment, preparing and maintaining work records on the operation of the assigned equipment.
  • Ensuring roads are safe for public use through plowing and placing sand and salt on roads.

What you will do

Reporting to the Highway Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • operating and maintaining a grader, tandem truck, truck with trailer equipped with air brakes and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner;
  • performing various highway maintenance and construction tasks;
  • performing normal maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment, preparing and maintaining work records on the operation of the assigned equipment;
  • ensuring roads are safe for public use through plowing and placing sand and salt on roads.

Appointment to this position will be restricted to local area residents.

Work may be available during the summer season at a lower classification.

Work environment:
  • Office location: Holmesville.
  • Work occasionally on holidays, weekends, shifts and/or variable hours.
  • May work in adverse road and weather conditions.

Essential qualifications:
  • Completion of grade ten (10) and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class 1 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick with endorsement for air brakes is also required.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

SALARY:

Equipment Operator: $29.29 per hour, based on a 40- hour week.
