Job summary

NextStar Energy in Windsor, Ontario, is seeking a skilled Equipment Electrician to maintain and repair automated production equipment, diagnose and fix PLC-controlled systems, and support safety and reliability improvements.

You will perform scheduled preventive maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and collaborate with process engineers and OEM technicians during upgrades and commissioning. Experience with industrial safety standards and CMMS is essential.

Qualifications

  • Industrial Electrician (442A) certificate and 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control drawings.
  • Experience using CMMS and working with safety standards including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on automated production equipment.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment.
  • Coordinate with OEM service providers during troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new production equipment.

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Equipment Electrician to join our team. This person will be responsible for Equipment Maintenance & Repair, Equipment Reliability, Controls & Automation Support, and Preventive Maintenance.

Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on automated production equipment.
  • Patrol the assigned equipment areas periodically and report to supervisor accordingly.
  • Diagnose failures involving PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, motors, drives, HMIs, robotics, and machine safety systems.
  • Perform preventive(scheduled), predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on production equipment.
  • Carries out electrical work within the scope of a licensed electrician when required.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore production in a safe and timely manner.
  • Replace and commission electrical components including motors, drives, contactors, relays, sensors, encoders, power supplies, and safety devices.
Equipment Reliability
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for major equipment failures.
  • Recommend electrical reliability improvements to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
Controls & Automation Support
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and control drawings.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new production equipment.
  • Work alongside controls engineers, process engineers, and OEM technicians during equipment modifications.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Verify proper operation of machine safety devices.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records within the CMMS.
  • Ensure equipment is returned to production in a safe operating condition.
Safety
  • Follow all electrical safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and machine guarding requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with ESA, CSA, company safety standards, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Maintain 3R(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) 5S(Sort-out, Set-in-order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) standards.
  • Working at heights may be required with appropriate PPE(if required)
  • Participate in safety audits and hazard identification.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with Production, Process Engineering, and Maintenance Planning.
  • Coordinate with OEM service providers during equipment troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Provide technical support during production changeovers and equipment commissioning.
  • Provide electrical service to production equipment departments such as Cell equipment team, module equipment team up on request.
Minimum Requirements
Other Responsibilities as assigned
  • Industrial Electrician (442A) Certificate of Qualification (or provincial equivalent).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of industrial manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control drawings.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety standards and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Experience using CMMS software.
