Overview

Opportunity: Our dynamic team is growing, and we have a new opportunity for an Environmental Technician with 4 plus years of experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team that solves complex issues for our clients throughout Alberta. The position is with the Remediation Program Management (RPM) team, which has offices across Canada. This role will include planning, coordination, supervision of field programs and ground disturbance activities, and preparing reports following each program. A day in the life:

Be part of a Canadian-based firm, applying and expanding your technical, client delivery and project delivery skills. You participate in a team environment and work closely with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Senior Project Directors/Technical Leads, and Field Technicians/Scientists/Engineers. Clearly identify and understand project objectives, bringing your ideas and solutions to your project manager, project directors, mentors and developing well-understood specific work instructions and health and safety plans.

Guided by our Zero Harm policy and rigorous Health, Safety and Environment standards, with your knowledge and experience, support the development and improvement of project health and safety plans.

Participate and be a member of a 14-person region-specific delivery team, while at the same time leveraging the experience and expertise of the entire 270-person RPM group. Apply your love for the outdoors and complete fieldwork assignments centred around the Northern and Southern Alberta. Mentor junior staff in environmental practices including Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation and reclamation, as well as on site-specific health and safety. Executing fieldwork occasionally in remote locations.

  • Identify and understand project objectives, and develop clear work instructions and health and safety plans.
  • Support the development and improvement of project health and safety plans under the Zero Harm policy and Health, Safety and Environment standards.
  • Participate in a 14-person region-specific delivery team while leveraging the larger RPM group (270 people).
  • Complete fieldwork assignments centred around Northern and Southern Alberta, with some remote locations.
  • Mentor junior staff in environmental practices including Phase 1 and 2 ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, remediation and reclamation, and on-site health and safety.
  • Occasionally execute fieldwork in remote locations.
What you’ll bring
  • College diploma or degree in natural/earth sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of field experience in contaminated site assessments and/or the environmental industry.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety procedures in the workplace; safety-conscious attitude.
  • Strong field experience and ability to work effectively as a team.
  • Technical ability to troubleshoot and brainstorm to ensure environmental data meets project objectives.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, with the ability to balance field and office responsibilities.
  • Experience in conducting ground disturbance assessments at active oil and gas facilities.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork 60% or more of the year for the next several years.
  • A professional designation or a professional in training with an applicable scope of practice is preferred.
  • Experience working in remote and camp settings, northern and territorial regions is considered a strong asset.
