Overview
General Summary: Lead TBCA Environmental program to ensure TBCA stays in compliance with regulatory requirements and foster a culture of continuous improvement to reduce TBCA's impact on the Earth through energy, water, and waste reduction activities.
Responsibilities
- Support assessment creation, implementation, and monitoring of TBCA's Environmental Action Plan.
- Complete monthly Key Performance Indicators and provide reports to various stakeholders including management, corporate office, and external.
- Support assessment, action plan creation, and implementation of TBCA's Plant Management Requirement and TBA Compliance Audit.
- Attend business meetings and represent the TBCA Environmental team as a key team member for the Canada region.
- Lead TBCA's Green Team and collaborate with team members to implement plant-wide initiatives to improve the environment.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to complete compliance-related reports.
- Support creation of monthly TBCA Management meeting documents and report to TBCA management on the status of various environmental activities.
- Support ISO14001 audit and corrective action projects to ensure TBCA maintains certification.
- Support approval and management of chemicals at TBCA facilities to mitigate adverse effects on the environment.
- Support TBCA June Environmental Month activities through collaboration with the EHS Team, Management Green Team, and Team Members to get everyone involved.
- Create, update, and maintain all environmental-related procedures and policies to keep TBCA in compliance.
- Investigation and Corrective Action activity related to environmental incidents.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or Energy related programs, or a combination of education and experience would be considered.
- CET, CEM, or other environmental-related designation is considered an asset.
Experience:
- Greater than 2 years of relevant experience in an environment-type role.
- Greater than 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing/industrial setting.
- Advanced knowledge of CEPA and other relevant regulations in Ontario/Canada.
- Experience working in both office and industrial settings.
Personal / Technical Skills:
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
- Ability to engage and collaborate with team members of all levels.
- Ability to create (Articulate 365) and host training lectures/meetings with management team.
- Open to learning about the Toyota Production System and utilizing techniques to reduce waste in own process.
- Ability to problem solve and learn Toyota Boshoku Business Practice (TBBP).
- Ability to differentiate between value and non-value adding functions.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Understanding of the organizational structure and terminology.
- Must become knowledgeable of company products, procedures, and equipment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must be creative and innovative.
- Strong analytical ability, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and implement projects.
- Must be a self-starter but also work well in a team dynamic.
- Strong attention to detail.
Language Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Some knowledge of other languages such as Japanese, Arabic, and Spanish would be considered an asset.
Computer / Software:
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet).
- Familiarity with RETScreen software would be considered an asset.
Work Environment / Conditions
Office: Shop floor setting, moderate to high noise level.
Plant: Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level. PPE such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, etc., may be required in engineering, manufacturing, and other areas. TBCA uniform required.
Travel: Must be willing and able to travel between Woodstock and Elmira facilities.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
