Your opportunity

Dillon’s Environmental Sciences team is looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our existing teams in Atlantic Canada (Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton, St. John’s, Halifax). We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

As we grow our teams with exciting and interesting work, we are looking for an experienced leader to help grow and develop the team. You will help lead an energetic team through mentorship, coaching and technical development to grow our environmental services within Atlantic Canada. You will partner with clients to identify environmental and permitting risks to their projects, develop solutions that address project needs, and recommend protection measures to support project development in an environmentally sustainable manner. Although this role is focused on Atlantic Canada, you may also have the opportunity to become involved in cutting edge, industry leading projects across Canada.

Responsibilities

Business Development
  • Build client relationships through identifying market opportunities, client communications, preparation of proposals, and business development activities.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities within the marketplace to secure work assignments.
  • Contribute to proposals through budget development and proposal writing.
  • Collaborate with staff across Canada for project delivery, client relationship development, and opportunity/project research.
Technical Practice, Project Management & Design
  • Lead the scoping, development, and execution of environmental permitting and project approval programs, and environmental programs including research, field work, and technical report writing.
  • Support the development of environmental assessments registration documents, compensation/offsetting plans, and related environmental permitting assignments at provincial and federal levels.
  • Scope, plan, develop, and implement assessment programs for a variety of projects across the public and private sectors.
  • Coordinate project team activities, provide direction to project team members, and contribute to development of staff.
Learning & Development
  • Continued development of self, including both technical skills and business acumen.
  • Contribution to the career development of less tenured staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Contribution to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations.
Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A university degree or post-undergraduate college diploma in a relevant environmental, physical science, or engineering related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated professional experience in environmental consulting, industrial, regulatory setting or related field with the specific emphasis on environmental permitting.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of French would be considered an asset.
Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements.
  • Experience in the preparation of regulatory applications and submissions.
  • General working knowledge of various environmental and social science disciplines with a focus on identifying potential environmental effects and mitigation for proposed development.
  • Expertise in a related technical discipline (such as terrestrial ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic biology, air quality, etc.) is an asset.
  • Experience in conducting public, stakeholder, and Indigenous engagement and consultation would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent project management and client relationship skills.
  • Advanced critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to project quality and ability to meet project deadlines.
