Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Environmental Project Manager (Oil Sands) in Alberta to lead environmental and regulatory projects from planning through delivery, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, Indigenous communities and regulators.

This role focuses on environmental assessment, permitting and regulatory approvals for oil sands operations, mine expansions, tailings, and associated infrastructure, with emphasis on budget, schedule and quality.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years of environmental consulting, industry, or regulatory experience.
• Experience supporting oil sands projects within Alberta.
• Strong knowledge of Alberta's environmental and regulatory framework, including environmental assessment and permitting processes.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience supporting regulatory applications, approval amendments, reclamation projects, mine expansions, tailings initiatives, or major capital developments.
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, client relationship management, and business development skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental and regulatory projects for oil sands and energy clients, ensuring successful delivery from planning through execution.
• Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resources while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated environmental solutions for complex projects.
• Guide environmental assessment, permitting, and regulatory approval activities associated with oil sands operations, mine expansions, reclamation, tailings management, and supporting infrastructure.
• Build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and project stakeholders.
• Review technical deliverables and ensure work products meet regulatory requirements and WSP's quality standards.
• Support business growth through proposal development, client engagement, and identification of new opportunities within the oil sands sector.
• Contribute to industry-leading environmental practices that help clients achieve responsible and sustainable project outcomes.

Join our Environmental Impact Assessment and Permitting team as an Environmental Project Manager (Oil Sands) and help shape some of Alberta's most significant resource development projects. This opportunity combines environmental expertise, regulatory knowledge, and project leadership to support the responsible planning, permitting, and delivery of oil sands and energy developments. Working alongside multidisciplinary specialists, clients, Indigenous communities, and regulators, you'll play a key role in advancing projects that balance environmental stewardship, operational success, and sustainable development.

• Professional designation such as P.Biol., P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Eng., RPBio, or equivalent, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Approximately 7 to 12 years of environmental consulting, industry, or regulatory experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting oil sands projects within Alberta.
• Strong knowledge of Alberta's environmental and regulatory framework, including environmental assessment and permitting processes.
• Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience supporting regulatory applications, approval amendments, reclamation projects, mine expansions, tailings initiatives, or major capital developments.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $104,100 - $138,000

MB & ON: $95,000 - $130,800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $94,100 - $124,900
