Job summary

Thurber Engineering Ltd. in Edmonton, Alberta invites an Environmental Project Coordinator to join our Prairies Regional Environmental team.

This full-time role manages regulatory monitoring, ESAs, site remediation, and environmental risk, ensuring schedule, budget, and compliance across projects. You will supervise field and office teams, analyze data, prepare reports, and coordinate with clients while supporting business development and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related discipline.
  • 6–8 years of relevant environmental consulting or project coordination experience.
  • 1–2 years of project coordination/management experience; knowledge of upstream oil and gas is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations.
  • Ground disturbance training.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent technical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to local and remote project sites.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a project portfolio including regulatory monitoring and reporting, Phase 1, 2, 3 ESAs, site remediations, and environmental risk assessment and management.
  • Ensure all work adheres to environmental laws, and health and safety standards and promoting and maintaining a positive health safety culture.
  • Supervising and coordinating work of field and office project teams and providing general technical direction.
  • Collecting and analyzing environmental data, preparing technical reports and regulatory forms, and maintaining project performance metrics and requirements, including project budgets, schedules, resourcing, invoicing, and communications.
  • Acting as a point of contact for clients, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supervising contractors or vendors.
  • Occasionally travelling to project sites and completing site meetings, inspections, and reconnaissance, as required.
  • Supporting business development efforts and strategies.
  • Supporting the training and mentoring of junior staff.
