Job summary

Join WSP in Ottawa as an Environmental Technician/Technologist and contribute to landfill monitoring, hydrogeologic studies, and environmental investigations. You will gain hands-on field and technical experience while working with experienced professionals to protect the environment.

The role supports measurement and sampling activities, data management, and reporting, with year-round fieldwork in varying weather.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of environmental consulting experience.
• Environmental fieldwork including landfill monitoring and hydrogeologic studies.
• Groundwater and soil sampling, including drilling oversight is an asset.
• Data management and analysis using Excel and database queries.
• Strong written communication and documentation with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, outdoors year-round.

Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental field and technical work supporting landfill monitoring, hydrogeologic studies, environmental site assessments and geotechnical investigations.
• Collect groundwater and surface water samples and complete field testing including pH, conductivity, DO, and landfill gas measurements.
• Support drilling and monitoring well installation, soil and rock descriptions, drilling records and well yield testing.
• Plan and coordinate field programs and water monitoring activities using environmental monitoring techniques.
• Manage environmental data through procurement, collation and documentation.
• Coordinate project deliverables including maps, borehole logs and summary analytical tables.
• Apply health and safety practices while completing year-round field programs.
• Collaborate with senior team members to deliver accurate work within schedules and budgets.

Your Impact

• Conduct environmental field and technical work supporting landfill monitoring, hydrogeologic studies, environmental site assessments and geotechnical investigations.
• Collect groundwater and surface water samples and complete field testing, including pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, surface water flow and landfill gas measurements.
• Support drilling and monitoring well installation, soil and rock descriptions, drilling records, slug testing, well yield testing, construction inspection and quality assurance.
• Plan and coordinate field programs and water monitoring activities using a variety of environmental monitoring techniques.
• Manage environmental data through accurate procurement, collation, documentation and organization.
• Coordinate project deliverables, including maps, borehole and well logs, and summary analytical tables.
• Apply strong health and safety practices while completing year-round field programs in a variety of weather conditions.
• Collaborate with senior team members to strengthen your technical skills and deliver accurate work within project schedules and budgets.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• An Environmental Technician/Technology diploma or equivalent education in a related discipline.
• 0 to 2 years of environmental consulting experience.
• Groundwater and soil sampling experience, including exposure to drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, is an asset.
• Experience with data management, analytical or statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel and database queries.
• Strong technical organization, written communication and documentation skills, with close attention to detail.
• Ability to organize multiple assignments, meet deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
• A strong foundation in health and safety practices and comfort completing outdoor fieldwork year-round in varying weather conditions.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $60,100 - $79,600
MB & ON: $54,800 - $75,400
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $54,200 - $72,000
