Job summary

Conuma Resources Limited, a leading Canadian metallurgical coal producer, seeks an Environmental Coordinator to support regulatory compliance, oversee monitoring programs, and lead field activities across multiple sites in British Columbia. The role requires collaboration with regulators, First Nations, and internal teams to ensure policy adherence.

You will manage contractors, review reports, and help integrate EMS throughout operations, including data interpretation and risk assessment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Environmental Science, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience implementing technical environmental programs, with supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of BC mining environmental legislation (BC Mines Act, Environmental Management Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act, Wildlife Act).
  • Experience coordinating with regulators, First Nations, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Environmental Manager in day-to-day compliance activities and tasks.
  • Oversee field programs, including condition and commitment compliance tracking.
  • Manage contractors and review technician reports before government submission.
  • Ensure adherence to Conuma Environmental policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain environmental awareness through meetings and planned programs.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, data assimilation, interpretation, and scheduling.
  • Contribute to monitoring program development and field site inspections.
  • Provide guidance to contractors on company environmental systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Support EMS through document reviews and revisions.
  • Facilitate liaison with government, stakeholders, and First Nations on project basis.

Duties & Responsibilities

Support the Environmental Manager in day-to-day compliance activities and tasks.

Oversee field programs, including condition and commitment compliance tracking.

Manage contractors and review technician reports before government submission.

Ensure strict adherence to Conuma Environmental policies, standards, management plans, and regulatory requirements.

Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all aspects of the organization’s activities.

Maintain a high level of environmental awareness among the workforce by conducting meetings and actively participating in planned environmental programs and drills.

Coordinate the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including data assimilation, interpretation, and scheduling.

Contribute to the development of monitoring programs and conduct field site inspections to assess environmental risks.

Provide advice, resources, and assistance to contractors in the interpretation of company environmental systems, policies, and procedures.

Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) by conducting ongoing document reviews and revisions as required.

Facilitate liaison with government, stakeholders, and First Nations on a project-specific basis.Other duties as required.

Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Environmental Science, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Five (5) years of experience in implementing technical environmental programs, with experience in supervisory or management role.
  • Broad experience in environmental aspects of the mining industry, such as water quality, air quality, environmental effects monitoring, permitting, regulatory liaison, and consultation with stakeholders and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in working with diverse teams, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff, to achieve operational objectives, manage risks, meet corporate requirements, and ensure compliance.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience in implementing technical environmental programs related to resource development, preferably in the mining sector.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to mining in BC, including the BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Management Act, Federal Fisheries Act, Federal Species at Risk Act, and BC Wildlife Act.
  • Competency in leading practice risk assessment and management approaches.
  • Proficiency in implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent project and process management skills.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff.
  • Proficiency in communication with regulators, First Nations, and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding and application of leading practice techniques and technologies in environmental management at mining sites.
  • Ability to adhere to the assigned work schedule, which may include either a 5x2 schedule or a 7x7 rotation with 12-hour shifts.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Proven safety and attendance record.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with peers, trainees, and leadership.

Specifically for the Environmental Coordinator role, we offer an annual base salary range of $90,000.00 - $110,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses.
