Job description

The Climate and Environment department is responsible for executing YVR’s Environmental Management plan, including reducing our carbon emissions, increasing waste diversion, conserving water and protecting the ecosystem on Sea Island. We also execute YVR’s Noise Management Plan, balancing the need for safe, convenient 24‑hour travel with enjoyable urban living.

Position Overview

We have a permanent, full‑time opportunity for an Environmental Analyst in the Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Climate & Environment, the successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team who is passionate about creating environmental change and is looking for an opportunity to work on interesting and varied environmental projects.

Key responsibilities include:

The successful candidate will use a unique combination of exceptional people skills and analytical ability to take the lead and contribute to program areas including, but not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing environmental conservation & reduction strategies that support the Airport Authority’s Environmental Management Plan and Roadmap to Net Zero Emission by 2030.
  • Performing data collection and analysis related to energy, emissions, carbon, water, waste and hazardous materials management to support program development and evaluation.
  • Promoting environmental conservation and reduction through environmental training and awareness.

The successful candidate will also support airport employees and work with community representatives in exploring environmental considerations during planning, design, construction and operation of airport facilities that advance YVR as a leader in sustainability.

Key qualifications include:
  • At least three years’ experience conducting environmental studies, research and monitoring, supplemented by an undergraduate degree in natural science, environmental studies or engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A keen analytical ability and proficient computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, and demonstrated skills and experience in conducting effective presentations and training programs.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated excellence in report writing.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial and local environmental legislation.
  • Experience with energy, air quality, waste management and hazardous materials management; experience in other areas of environmental management an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting with a focus on results.

Salary Range : $85,156 to $111,294 per annum, based on 37.5‑hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
