Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. (MEMS) is seeking an Environment Scientist, Complex Field Lead to lead and execute complex environmental assessment, remediation and reclamation projects across Western Canada, with a mix of office and fieldwork (20/80).

The role supports the Brownfield & Assessment team and can be based in Calgary or Sherwood Park. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of directly related experience, eligibility for professional membership,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 years of directly related environmental site assessment/remediation experience.
  • Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization.
  • Must meet client pre-access requirements, including drug/alcohol/fitness testing.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and oversee field programs for Phase 2 ESA, remediation and reclamation projects.
  • Collaborate with safety-focused professionals to ensure safety excellence.
  • Coordinate with contractors to implement projects.
  • Forecast crew and contractor costs and expenses.
  • Ensure field processes meet contract requirements and quality standards.
  • Utilize digital tools to collect and organize field data.
  • Develop work plans and cost estimates using risk-based approaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Environment Scientist, Complex Field Lead, will work as part of the MEMS Brownfield & Assessment team to execute complex environmental assessment, remediation and reclamation projects for clients throughout Western Canada. This position requires a combination of office and fieldwork (20/80) in a demanding consultative environment.

Please note this position is available to be based out of our Calgary or Sherwood Park offices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and execute and/or oversee field programs for complex Phase 2 ESA’s, remediation, reclamation and construction monitoring projects, including soil and groundwater assessments.
  • Work with safety-focused professionals to deliver and maintain safety excellence throughout project execution.
  • Working with contractors to implement ESA and remediation projects.
  • Accurate field tracking and forecasting of crew and contractor costs and expenses.
  • Executing all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract and ensuring quality of field processes.
  • Use of digital technologies for collection and organization of field data and project files.
  • Develop work plans and cost estimates for field projects using risk-based solutions.

What You Bring:

  • Directly applicable post-secondary education/Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience in environmental site assessment, remediation and reclamation, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization is required.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of site access as dictated by our clients, this may include pre-access drug, alcohol and fitness testing.
  • Possess a valid, non-GDL Class 5 Drivers license.

Other Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent safety attitude, leadership, mentorship and practice on-site and in the office.
  • Fluency with the Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 guideline, 2010 Reclamation Criteria for Wellsites and Associated Facilities and Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines, BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and BC OGC Certificate of Restoration program documents and/or equivalent documents from other jurisdictions as required.
  • Understanding of the environmental site assessment process including applying risk-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of environmental industry’s best practices.
  • Understanding of the oil & gas industry.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Use of digital devices and software to collect, maintain and organize field data.
  • Be able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team interacting with other project members and contractors.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Working Conditions:

  • This individual should expect to spend approximately 80% of their work time at client sites; each individual trip lasting anywhere from 1 to 14 days. This individual may conduct assessments at industrial facilities and/or greenfield sites in remote locations. In some cases, the field work may include carrying sampling equipment.
  • Office environment that requires sitting for extended periods of time, as well as field work.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer keyboards and computer screens.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Sometimes requires long hours of work. Occasional interruptions outside work hours and travel to other locations are required.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including the occasional evening and night; and
  • required to walk, stand, climb, bend forward, kneel down, crawl, reach and grasp, push and pull objects, lift and/or move up to 30 kg, sometimes over the shoulders, repetitive bending and lifting of items, along with repetitive arm movements.
