Job summary

Electronic Arts in Vancouver is seeking a Level Artist to craft high-fidelity environments for EA SPORTS FC. You will collaborate with Worlds/Environments teams to build vast levels, set dressing, and asset pipelines in a production-led environment.

This 12-month contract requires onsite work three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday) at the Burnaby office, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and delivery of immersive gameplay spaces.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of production experience in asset creation and level oversight.
  • Expert Maya or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Strong asset creation for hard surface, architecture, or organic assets.
  • Experience with content-driven game engines (Unreal, Frostbite, Unity).
  • Proven ability to estimate scope and deliver on time.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality assets and levels from concept to final delivery.
  • Set dress locations to convey depth and storytelling in asset composition.
  • Deconstruct concept art and style guides into efficient asset lists.
  • Participate in level building from grey-block layouts to final assets.
  • Breakdown tasks, coordinate references, and oversee artists (internal/external).
  • Troubleshoot workflows and document processes.
  • Collaborate with Designers, Engineers, and Tech Artists to improve pipelines.
  • Integrate assets into the game ensuring consistency with design and style.

The EA SPORTS FC Art team is a global community of content creators, fueled by imagination and a unified passion to grow the love of sports for players worldwide through inspiring visuals and immersive experiences. We push visual boundaries and create leading edge content across multiple disciplines. Building massive environments, populating them with buildings, roads, trees and props - the Worlds team has the ultimate goal of creating fun, interactive and exciting worlds for our players to experience. As a Level Artist you will work with both internal and external teams of the Worlds/Environments domain, to achieve diverse and engaging worlds and gameplay levels for our players. You will collaborate closely with Art Direction and Environment Leads, to help develop both the visual and gameplay experiences - according to the goals of each.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Creating high-quality benchmark content, from individual assets to levels, sets, or stadiums/arenas and complex worlds.
  • Creating and maintaining schematic and logic based hook-ups for level environments.
  • Set dress locations, conveying depth and storytelling in the way assets are composed - going beyond the immediate needs of game design.
  • Deconstruct concept art, reference imagery, and style guides into efficient asset lists, taking into account opportunities for reuse and modular construction.
  • Be involved in the level building process, from initial grey-block rapid layout, through to final assets.
  • Breakdown tasks, assemble reference material and oversee the work of internal and external artists.
  • Troubleshooting and creating workflows and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other Artists, Tech Artists and Leads.
  • Integrate assets into the game ensuring they fit seamlessly into the design and style.

Your Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of production experience with asset creation and overseeing entire levels.
  • You have expert knowledge of Maya or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Exceptional asset creation abilities (hard surface, architecture and/or organic assets).
  • Experienced working methodically, from initial grey-block through to final assets, iterating with low-fidelity content to determine the optimal approach, before building final assets.
  • A strong sense of proportion, scene composition, and lighting.
  • Well versed in assessing scope, making recommendations, providing solid estimates, and delivering on time and to quality.
  • Experience working with content-driven game engines (e.g., Unreal, Frostbite, Unity).
  • Experience collaborating with designers, engineers, and tech artists to evolve workflows, pipelines, and to problem-solve.
  • High fidelity modeling skills, along with ability to paint photorealistic surfaces using industry-standard physically based 3D paint software (ideally Substance Painter).
  • Experience with photogrammetry, ZBrush and Substance Designer is a plus.
  • Experience working with outsource vendors is a plus.
  • Examples of assets that were created/owned from start to finish.
  • Sets, assets, and environments that demonstrate an understanding of composition, architectural construction, material properties, and organic wear and tear.
  • Examples of high fidelity modelled assets, painted using 3D paint software, e.g., Substance Painter.
