Job summary

Northland Power Inc. is hiring an Enterprise AI Engineer to drive adoption, governance and development of AI across the organization. You will lead AI enablement, build custom AI applications, and advise leaders on opportunities while integrating AI with enterprise systems.

The role focuses on safe, scalable AI, including agents, copilots, LLM-powered workflows, and RAG-based solutions, with a hybrid work schedule in Toronto (4 days in the office, 1 day work-from-home).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. Advanced degree or AI certifications are assets.
  • 5+ years of software development, automation, enterprise applications, or related technology roles.
  • 3+ years designing and supporting AI/ML solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Experience deploying and scaling AI solutions with business stakeholders for adoption and value realization.
  • Knowledge of enterprise AI platforms such as Claude, Azure AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive enterprise-wide AI adoption by identifying, prioritizing, and delivering high-value AI initiatives.
  • Develop and execute the enterprise AI roadmap with business leaders.
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain AI solutions including custom apps, agents, copilots, and RAG-based workflows.
  • Lead AI solution delivery from ideation to production deployment and improvements.
  • Administer and optimize AI platforms, managing access, security, and integrations.
  • Partner with IT to integrate AI capabilities into enterprise systems and automate processes.
  • Deliver AI training and coaching to build organizational capability.

The Enterprise AI Engineer is responsible for driving the adoption, governance, development, and operationalization of Artificial Intelligence across Northland Power. This role serves as both a technical expert and business partner, enabling teams to leverage AI safely and effectively while developing enterprise AI solutions that improve productivity, automate business processes, and accelerate innovation. The successful candidate will lead AI enablement initiatives across the organization, build custom AI applications, advise business leaders on AI opportunities, establish strong AI governance practices, and partner with IT to integrate AI capabilities into enterprise systems. The role is required to work in the Toronto office 4 days per week with one flexible day to work from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive enterprise‑wide AI adoption by identifying, prioritizing, and delivering high‑value AI initiatives that improve productivity, automation, and business performance.
  • Develop and execute the enterprise AI roadmap in partnership with business leaders, promoting innovative and responsible AI use across the organization.
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain AI solutions, including custom applications, agents, copilots, assistants, LLM‑powered workflows, and RAG‑based solutions.
  • Lead AI solution delivery from ideation and proof of concept through production deployment, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Administer and optimize enterprise AI platforms, managing access, security, licensing, performance, integrations, and vendor relationships.
  • Partner with IT and business teams to integrate AI capabilities into enterprise systems, develop API integrations, and automate business processes.
  • Deliver AI training, workshops, and coaching programs to build organizational capability in prompting, solution design, and responsible AI practices.
  • Develop and maintain AI governance frameworks, policies, standards, and risk management processes to ensure compliance with legal, privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish processes for AI model evaluation, validation, monitoring, and approval while staying current on emerging technologies, regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree or AI certifications are an asset.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, automation, enterprise applications, or related technology roles.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting AI or machine learning solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience deploying and scaling AI solutions while partnering with business stakeholders to drive adoption and value realization.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise AI platforms and technologies, including Claude, Azure AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar solutions.
  • Strong expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, AI agents, custom AI applications, and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, REST APIs, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with enterprise integrations, automation technologies, and platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, responsible AI principles, risk management, privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value.
