Job summary

SpeakUp! Learning is seeking a friendly, patient tutor to teach 1-on-1 conversational English using our student-centric methodology. This is a part-time remote position with flexible hours and a Canada-based requirement.

You will prepare engaging sessions, assess student progress, and tailor lessons to each learner's needs, working with students primarily from China. Join a growing education startup and make an impact from home.

Qualifications

• Must be based in Canada and fluent in English.

SpeakUp! Learning is a growing education startup dedicated to helping non-native speakers (primarily based in China) overcome their fear of making mistakes and achieve real-world conversational fluency. We are looking for a friendly, patient, and reliable tutor to join our team and teach using our unique, student-centric methodology.

You will work directly with students to develop their accuracy, confidence, and fluency in practical, real-world contexts. Responsibilities include preparing engaging sessions, continuously assessing student progress, and personalizing lessons to meet individual needs.

This is a part-time remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and deliver engaging, 1-on-1 conversational English sessions.

What We’re Looking For:

• Language Skills: Native proficiency in English with the ability to clearly explain grammar, phonetics, and common idioms. (Bilingual proficiency is a strong asset, English MUST be your first language).
• Teaching Experience: Prior experience in teaching, mentoring, or coaching. Strong lesson planning skills and the ability to tailor your approach.
• Intercultural Competence: High empathy and the ability to understand and respond to the unique needs of non-native learners.
• Technical Requirements: A reliable high-speed internet connection, a quiet workspace, and a webcam/microphone setup.
• Location: Candidates MUST be based in Canada.
