Overview

Adult English as a Second Language Supply (ESL) & Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) - Supply Instructors – St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centre. The Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) provides services to students in 50 schools (K to 12) across the Waterloo Region and operates Adult Learning and Continuing Education programs through St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres. General Description Of The Program

  • You will report to the Program Managers of the CNC/LINC/ESL Program
General Description Of Duties
  • Prepare and deliver Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) level appropriate lessons based on the ESL/LINC guidelines
  • Provide learner–centered language instruction using resources and activities sensitive to cultural differences, equity, and inclusivity
  • Assess learners’ needs, development, and skill levels in accordance with CLB guidelines using CLB based assessment tools
  • Implement PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment)
  • Use an online platform for posting learning materials (Avenue.ca) in an in-person or remote situation
  • Support students to do their work using Chromebooks in both in-person and remote learning scenarios
  • Use professionally acceptable and effective classroom management strategies following LINC/ESL procedures
  • Share community support contact information with students
  • Fulfill administrative duties as required such as HARTS attendance
Note

All in-person and online classes are taught at the school by the Instructor. Online classes are also part of the program.

Minimum Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Degree from an accredited institution
  • Formal Adult ESL Instruction Training or current registration in an accredited TESL Program
  • CLB Bootcamp certificate or willingness to complete within 30 days of hire
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English
Desirable Assets
  • Current OCELT Certification
  • Experience teaching in an ESL setting
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Completed PBLA training or willingness to complete training
  • Knowledge of Avenue or other platforms for learning
  • Comfortable using and learning more technology for teaching English
Salary

$40.13 per hour (plus vacation pay)

Program Hours

Monday to Friday 8:45 AM - 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM
Tuesday & Wednesday 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Hours of Work

On Call as needed

We hire from the supply list for temporary assignments and permanent assignments (Only OCELT qualified candidates qualify for permanent assignments).

Please be aware that applicants to St Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education are not required to be Catholic.
