Job summary

Lakeland Holding Ltd. is seeking an Engineering Technician/Technologist Co-op Student to assist the engineering staff with distribution design, drafting, field inspections, and recordkeeping in Bracebridge, Ontario.

The role can run for 4 or 8 months starting Winter 2027 and involves collaboration across Lakeland Holding's group of companies. You will gain hands-on experience with overhead and underground distribution infrastructure, review of joint-use applications, and GIS updates, while

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a two or three-year Electrical Technician/Technologist Diploma program or a four-year Electrical Engineering program.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and comprehensive electrical theory is an asset.
• Applicant must be detail-oriented and work positively in a team environment. Must be adept at interacting constructively (both verbally and in writing) with customers and other employees. Proficiency with AutoCAD and SpidaCalc is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist with distribution design, drafting, field inspections, customer service, recordkeeping, and other duties.
• Complete field inspections to determine the condition of assets and compliance with standard construction.
• Assist with ESA Reg. 22/04 documentation for yearly audits.
• Provide updates to the GIS team.
• Work safely around moving and energized apparatus.
• Other duties as assigned.

Engineering Technician/Technologist Co-op Student

Along with Lakeland Generation, Lakeland Energy and Lakeland Solutions, Lakeland Power is one of the four subsidiaries of Lakeland Holding Ltd. Lakeland Power distributes electricity to more than 14,900 customers in Bracebridge, Burk’s Falls, Huntsville, Magnetawan, Parry Sound and Sundridge. Our priorities are safety, customer service and reliability.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position will assist the Engineering staff with distribution design, drafting, field inspections, customer service, recordkeeping, and other duties. This co-op placement can be 4 or 8 months and is planned to begin in the Winter of 2027.

Responsibilities:

• Work within company values and policies at all times.
• Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
• Work with various departments within the Lakeland Holding group of companies in a professional manner.
• Assist with the design of overhead and underground distribution infrastructure.
• Assist with review of joint-use partner applications and engineered drawings.
• Assist in computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD, SpidaCalc).
• Work with Microsoft software such as Word and Excel.
• Complete field inspections to determine the condition of assets and compliance with standard construction.
• Conduct site visits to gather field data for design or records purposes, pole staking, and inspections.
• Assist with ESA Reg. 22/04 documentation for yearly audits.
• Provide updates to the GIS team.
• Work safely around moving and energized apparatus.
• Work effectively and safely in a team environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in a two or three-year Electrical Technician/Technologist Diploma program or a four-year Electrical Engineering program.
