Job summary

A city government in Greater Sudbury seeks an Engineering Technician for drafting and design tasks, requiring experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Qualifications

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly

Range of Pay: Group 10 - $30.44 to $36.75 per hour (Subject to Review)

This position is eligible to work remotely on a part-time basis (Note: Must be able to report to a City of Greater Sudbury work location on short notice).

Characteristic Duties
  • Prepare base plans, contract drawings and update as-builts using CAD software.
  • Act as drafting team leader as directed; organize contract drawing requirements, check design calculations, instruct other Engineering Technician I and less experienced employees, and liaise with project designers.
  • Provide recommendations relative to adequacy, accuracy and project deadlines.
  • Perform initial check of project drawings and perform other checking duties as required.
  • Perform design work on routine engineering projects including calculations of quantities, etc.
  • Use good practical judgement in accurate calculations and interpretations of properties, legal descriptions, and field engineering records.
  • Perform graphics design and preparation of graphics material.
  • Exercise artistic ability in presentation of work.
  • Assist with the collection and conversion of infrastructure asset data obtained from engineering and surveying sources as required in support of CGS’ Asset Management Program and in accordance with life cycle processes/workflow related to enterprise systems.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Community College diploma with Canadian accreditation in a related field (e.g. Civil Engineering Program, Mining Engineering Program, etc.).
  • Over one (1) year up to and including two and one-half (2½) years of related experience.
  • Experience with Engineering software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required.
  • Knowledge of surveying and general engineering practices in a municipal setting.
  • Experience integrating CAD and GIS data and/or experience utilizing mobile field devices and associated web applications is considered an asset.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • Physical capability to operate a vehicle safely, possession of a valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driving record will be considered an asset.

Development opportunity range of pay: $29.60 to $35.02 per hour (Subject to Review). The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
