Job summary

The City of Kawartha Lakes is hiring an Engineering Technician in Lindsay, Ontario. This permanent, full-time position reports to the Supervisor of Environmental Capital Project Management and supports capital projects in water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure. Wage is $40.57 per hour (2026).

The department is Engineering & Corporate Assets, Infrastructure Design & Construction. Travel within the City is required; normal hours are 40 per week.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
• Working toward certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists.
• Proficiency in Total Station Surveys and layout.
• Experience in water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure design and construction.
• Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills to develop cooperative relationships.
• Excellent time-management and ability to meet deadlines in a multi-demand environment.
• Excellent written communications and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence and acceptable Criminal Record Check upon conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigation and review background information to set scope and parameters of capital projects related to water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure.
• Assist with preparation of drawings, specifications, estimates and contract documents such as RFT, RFP, and RFQ.
• Coordinate and oversee Consultants and Contractors to manage capital projects in all stages of design and construction.
• Provide input and recommendations on design, specifications, assessments, plans/drawings, materials, tenders, agreements and reports.
• Perform or coordinate engineering inspection services on construction projects.
• Process payment certificates, negotiate additional work claims, and assess contract work according to contractual and statutory obligations.
• Collect and update field data for 'as constructed' plans; perform pre-engineering and construction surveys and drafting.
• Maintain plans, maps, drawings and records reflecting municipal infrastructure; prepare engineering reports and memoranda.
• Research and prepare engineering reports and technical memoranda; perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

• Perform financial administrative activities including processing of payment certificates, negotiation of additional work claims, and assessment of contract work in accordance with contractual and statutory obligations;
• Collect and update field data for 'as constructed' plans;
• Perform pre-engineering and construction surveys and drafting for capital improvement projects;
• Maintain plans, maps, drawings and other records reflecting the municipal infrastructure;
• Research and prepare engineering reports and technical memoranda;
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills/Education Required

• Post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field;
• Minimum 2 years of related progressive experience, preferably in a municipal environment;
• Working toward certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists;
• Proficiency in Total Station Surveys and layout;
• Experience in water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure design and construction;
• Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion;
• Demonstrated customer-service and interpersonal skills at a level to develop and to maintain cooperative/collaborative working relationships both within and outside the organization;

• Demonstrated ability to understand and abide by municipal policies and procedures;
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software;
• Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence;
