ENGINEERING SUMMER STUDENT

Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Engineering and Development Services Department as an Engineering Summer Student.

Position Details

  • Location: City Hall (169 Front Street, Belleville, ON)
  • Hours: 35 Hours/week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Employee Group: Non-Union
  • Salary: $21.22 - $23.25 per hour
  • Closing Date: January 9, 2026 at 4:30 PM
Purpose and Scope

The position will support the engineering team and provide assistance with technical design, construction inspection, and surveying support. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Student interested in gaining practical experience in an engineering and municipal government environment.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
  • Provide support for engineering designs for projects including but not limited to:
    • Active transportation municipal infrastructure assets.
    • Road projects including horizontal and vertical alignments in accordance with accepted design guidelines.
    • Watermain and sewer projects including necessary design calculations in accordance with provincial and municipal standards and guidelines.
  • Assist Construction team with contract administration and construction inspection
  • Accompany City land surveyor and provide surveying assistance in the field using GPS and total station
  • Collect and compile data to be entered into the City GIS database through survey and site inspection
  • Assist with the preparation of tender documents, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates for new construction projects
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of, and attendance at, public information presentations of departmental activities and/or projects
  • Provide document scanning using scanning equipment to convert paper documents into digital format

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be enrolled in a Civil Engineering Program registered for full-time post-secondary education and be returning in the Fall
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License with a safe driving record and access to a personal vehicle
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority
  • Must have proficient computer skills and must have a solid working knowledge with MS Word, Excel, MS Access and email software.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
