Job summary

Bombardier in Montreal designs, builds, and maintains world‑class aircraft for governments, militaries, and businesses. You will join the Experimental Engineering team to design wind tunnel models, integrate instrumentation, and lead multidisciplinary projects with a focus on cost, schedule, and performance.

The role requires a mechanical or aerospace engineering background, 12+ years in wind tunnel design, and strong CATIA V5/Siemens NX skills, with fluency in French and English.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
  • Minimum 12 years of wind tunnel model design experience.
  • Familiarity with wind tunnel instrumentation and data acquisition systems preferred.
  • Fluency in French and English is required for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Join the Experimental Engineering team responsible for wind tunnel model development and validation.
  • Design wind tunnel models meeting aerodynamic test program requirements.
  • Integrate instrumentation systems and perform preliminary structural analyses.
  • Coordinate design, manufacturing, assembly and validation with cross-functional teams.
  • Plan schedules and budgets, identify risks and mitigate them.

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Join the Experimental Engineering team responsible for the development, fabrication, and validation of wind tunnel models supporting Bombardier aircraft development programs.
  • Design and develop wind tunnel models that meet the requirements of aerodynamic test programs in Stability & Control (Low-Speed), Takeoff and Landing Performance (High-Lift), and High-Speed testing.
  • Integrate specialized instrumentation systems, including internal balances, pressure sensors, strain gauges, and data acquisition systems.
  • Perform preliminary structural analyses to ensure the mechanical integrity and dimensional accuracy of models subjected to significant aerodynamic loads.
  • Coordinate design, manufacturing, assembly, and validation activities with aerodynamics, testing, instrumentation, manufacturing teams, and external suppliers.
  • In addition to wind tunnel model design activities, design mechanical installations for experimental systems, including flight test aircraft, structural test rigs, and systems test benches, supporting aircraft development, in-service support, and Defense programs.
  • Plan, monitor, and control design schedules and budgets by identifying critical risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies for projects under your responsibility.
  • Interpret customer technical requirements and develop robust engineering solutions that meet design objectives while optimizing cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, act as a technical leader, influence stakeholders, build strong working relationships, and actively contribute to team development.
  • Ensure successful project execution through close collaboration with the Experimental Workshop, while actively supporting fabrication, assembly, and installation activities.
  • Effectively manage priorities in a complex environment and confidently present technical solutions and recommendations to management.
  • Contribute to the development of future Bombardier aircraft programs by supporting the experimental validation of innovative technologies and the continuous enhancement of aerodynamic performance across our platforms.
How to thrive in this role?
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience in wind tunnel model design, including direct participation in Stability & Control, Takeoff and Landing Performance (High-Lift), and High-Speed wind tunnel test campaigns.
  • Eligibility to obtain access under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
  • Strong proficiency with CATIA V5 and/or Siemens NX for complex mechanical design, 3D modeling, and technical documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of aerodynamic principles as applied to wind tunnel testing.
  • Excellent understanding of wind tunnel instrumentation, including internal aerodynamic balances, pressure sensors, strain gauges, data acquisition systems, and specialized instrumentation used during wind tunnel test campaigns.
  • Strong knowledge of structures, materials, and standard components used in the aerospace and industrial sectors; experience designing machined parts, welded assemblies, and sheet metal components, as well as knowledge of instrumentation systems.
  • Excellent understanding of aerospace technical and regulatory requirements, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving planning, budget tracking, and risk management.
  • Recognized technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams, with the ability to influence stakeholders, build strong relationships, and demonstrate accountability, sound judgment, and a strong team-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and confidently present technical recommendations to management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English.
