A leading open source software provider is seeking an Engineering Manager for the MAAS team. This role involves leading a distributed team of engineers, focusing on talent development and pushing modern software practices. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in software development, especially in Python or Go, and expertise in Linux systems. Qualifications

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Proven experience delivering software using Python, Go, or similar languages.
  • Technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems.
  • Experience with Linux system administration (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)
  • Familiarity with Linux cloud-native tech: networking, storage, containers, Kubernetes
  • Strong technical aptitude for distributed systems
  • Excellent English written and spoken with presentation skills
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members
  • Results-driven with ability to meet commitments
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks

Engineering Manager – MAAS

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. The Engineering Manager, MAAS role will lead the MAAS team in building and running private bare‑metal infrastructure.

Location: This is a work‑from‑anywhere position available in EMEA or the Americas.

Responsibilities
  • Leading a distributed team of engineers in your time zone (we organize engineering teams by Americas, EMEA, etc.)
  • Talent development through coaching, mentoring, feedback and career planning
  • Setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Being an advocate of, and advancing, modern software development practices
  • Participating in the engineering process through code and architectural review
  • Engaging with broader teams at Canonical, the open‑source community and partners
  • Travelling to internal and external global events for 4 to 6 weeks per year
