Job summary

Sun Life Financial's Prospr team seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a squad delivering high-impact financial services software. You’ll balance hands-on coding with people leadership, translate product requirements, manage performance, and ensure delivery at startup velocity.

You’ll collaborate with Product and Design, maintain code quality, mentor engineers, and drive engineering standards. The role offers a hybrid in-office schedule (2-3 days/week) in Toronto with a clear path for growth

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an Engineering Manager role.
• Experience leading a single squad end-to-end (delivery, quality, reliability, and team health).
• Hands-on with Java, React and enterprise integrations; strong design/architecture skills.
• Proven ability to run team-level execution rituals and improve delivery predictability.
• Experience hiring, onboarding, coaching, and giving performance feedback.

Responsibilities

• Lead sprint execution and delivery commitments with full accountability.
• Translate product requirements into clear, executable engineering work.
• Directly manage developers—hiring, performance, growth and engagement.
• Enforce engineering standards and code quality within the squad.
• Balance hands-on coding with leadership and architecture discussions.
• Build a healthy squad culture aligned with Accelerator principles.
• Coordinate with Product, Design, and other squads; manage dependencies.
• Balance technical debt with feature delivery and ensure velocity.
