The Role

As a Manager of the Data Platform, you will lead a team of data engineers & business intelligence engineers in building and maintaining our data platform, which includes real-time microservices and a complex data warehouse. Stakeholders are internal and external and require high quality and robustness due to their business critical impact. You will define the technical roadmap and translate it into sprint-by-sprint plans, advocate for reliability and security, and foster technical excellence and continuous improvement. This role blends technical expertise, strategic thinking, and people leadership to deliver a secure and dependable experience for our users. You will work closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into scalable and resilient platform solutions.

Meet the Team

There are two subgroups to be managed:

  • A Data Platform Services group, which manages Terraform infrastructure for data and builds microservices used in production. Tech stack includes: Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Terraform, Dataflow, Cloud Healthcare API.
  • A Data Platform Warehouse group, which manages classic ETL pipelines from sources like Mongo and Salesforce, powering internal dashboards and daily exports to customers. Tech Stack includes: Cloud Composer (Airflow), BigQuery, Looker.
In this role, you will
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Data Engineering & Business Intelligence engineers, guiding career growth and technical best practices.
  • Drive technical vision and strategy for the data platform, including architecture, tool selection, and process optimization.
  • Oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure cloud data infrastructure.
  • Ensure high-quality standards through code reviews, release processes, and monitoring system performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers and senior leaders to align team goals with company objectives.
  • Manage a roadmap, balance technical debt with new features, and report on team progress and impact.
  • Be an active member of the on-call rotation to support League’s infrastructure and ensure system availability and integrity.
About You
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a management or technical leadership role, leading engineering or data engineering teams.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data platform or data engineering.
  • Proven expertise in managing and mentoring a team of technical professionals.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in cloud providers (preferably GCP) and data pipelines (Airflow).
  • Experience with CI/CD and automation in production environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for fostering a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Nice-to-have
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • Experience in healthcare datasets like EMR and Claims and interoperability standards like FHIR.

The Canada-specific compensation range below for this full-time position is exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for base salaries for the position across all Canadian locations. The salary range accounts for performance and career progression in this role.
