Job summary

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an Engineer-in-Training within Mine Engineering to design blast patterns, generate loading instructions, and set blast timing safely and efficiently. The role follows a 4x4 day shift schedule and offers rotation into other engineering roles as experience grows toward the P.Eng path.

Candidates should have a degree in Mine or Geological Engineering, be eligible for EIT registration, and possess strong interpersonal, analytical, and digital skills with

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mine/Geological Engineering or similar field.
  • Registered, or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in health and safety programs and policies.
  • Collaborate with mine operations, engineering, survey, and geology teams to design and blast patterns.
  • Generate loading instructions and determine optimal blast timing to maximize coal recovery.
  • Design drill patterns and manage design files in drilling digital systems.
  • Support on-site nitrate management initiatives and standard drilling/blasting methodologies.

About the role:

Reporting to the Drill and Blast Engineer, Mine Engineering, the Engineer-in-Training is responsible for: designing blast patterns, generating loading instructions, and determining blast timing in a safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient manner. The position follows a 4x4 day shift schedule.

To be successful, we require someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who works well as an individual and as a team player. This person has strong analytical, logistical, and problem-solving skills, and can prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment.

EVR believes in supporting professional development. While the initial role will be as an EIT, Drill & Blast, the successful candidate for this position can expect to rotate into other roles on the engineering team as they build experience towards their P.Eng application.

In this role you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate closely with mine operations, engineering, survey, and geology teams to efficiently design and blast patterns
  • Generate loading instructions, determine optimal blast timing to maximize coal recovery and waste rock fragmentation
  • Design drill patterns and manage design files on the drilling digital systems
  • Support on site nitrate management initiatives
  • Support and implement standard methodologies related to drilling and blasting
Requirements:
  • Degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, or similar relevant field
  • Registered, or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia
  • Basic digital literacy and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Exposure to the DABS System is an asset
  • Exposure to mine design software, particularly MinePlan3D is an asset

Salary Range: $91,300 - $126,800 CAD/year

For applicants registered as an EIT or GIT, annual base salary will be determined by EVR's formal progression matrix based on verified relevant years of experience.

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
