Government of the Northwest Territories Department of Infrastructure seeks a technical energy engineer to lead conventional and renewable energy projects in the Major Energy Projects Division from concept through construction.
You will analyze, plan, design, and implement energy initiatives while coordinating with Indigenous governments, utilities, consultants, and partners to deliver reliable, affordable power and energy infrastructure across the North.
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Working as a technical expert within the Major Energy Projects Division, you'll lead the analysis, planning, design, and implementation of major energy initiatives from concept through construction. You'll collaborate with Indigenous governments, utilities, consultants, industry, and government partners to evaluate emerging technologies, develop business cases, and deliver projects ranging from renewable generation and energy storage to transmission, heating systems, and community energy infrastructure.

A bachelor's degree in engineering and Professional Engineering designation with three (3) years of post-designation experience in the analysis and design of utility scale energy systems in the energy field including experience working with and directing a broad range of technical specialists including engineering consultants and field contractors.
Additional Requirements.
Registration with the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association for Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG) within 90 days of hire is required, with flexibility for international registrants.
