To keep pace with our continued growth, we are in need of mid‑level to senior Employment / Labour Lawyers in British Columbia, ideally with large firm and/or in‑house experience.

As a Caravel Employment Lawyer / Litigator you will:
  • Advise clients on a broad range of employment‑related matters including but not limited to hiring, employee compensation, benefits, discipline, terminations, severance packages, and approaches to terminations, reductions in workforce, and developing strategies for managing risk around employment matters.
  • Draft employment and secondment contracts, termination letters, employment policies & procedures and other employment‑related documents.
  • Assist clients to ensure their businesses are compliant with employment laws and regulations.
  • Advise on start‑up operations, including processes, policies and procedures.
  • Represent both corporate and individual clients at the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal as well as at mediations.
  • Assist clients with managing labour relations issues, including certification applications, unfair labour practices, collective agreement negotiations and resolution of grievances.
  • Manage wrongful dismissal actions through all stages of litigation.
  • Prepare for and conduct labour board hearings.
  • Represent clients before government commissions and tribunals to resolve human rights complaints, including representing clients at mediations.
  • Represent clients before the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
  • Draft legal opinions, motion materials, pleadings and written submissions.
  • Represent clients at pre‑trial conferences, private and mandatory mediations.
  • Conduct examinations for discovery in complex multi‑party matters.
What You Will Bring:
  • 8 years experience as an Employment Lawyer in private practice or in‑house.
  • Experience dealing with employment law issues across Canada.
  • Corporate Law experience / knowledge.
  • Called to the bar in Ontario.
  • Ability to work in French; not critical but an asset.
  • Knowledge of Immigration Law is an asset.
