Accountable for supporting the organization in developing, implementing and monitoring the company’s Employee Wellness, Safety and Environmental management strategies, systems and standards to ensure best-in-class injury prevention, environmental management and employee wellness programs.

How YOU Will Make a Difference

  • Review and provide input regarding proposed healthcare legislation/regulations, guidelines and standards in consultation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate any relevant regulatory, guidelines and/or standards changes to affected internal business units in order to ensure compliance
  • Develop and implement all safety related policies, systems and procedures
  • Maintain all safety-related documentation in accordance with established internal and external guidelines
  • Provide assistance and counseling to employees and management, as required, on the interpretation and administration of safety related policies and procedures
  • Address employee concerns and inquiries in a timely manner
  • Consult with internal stakeholders regarding potential enhancements/improvements to the company’s Employee Wellness, Safety and Environmental policies, programs, processes and standards and make appropriate recommendations
  • Analyze Dynacare’s incident and accident data and claims management programs and processes enterprise-wide with a view to minimize workplace injuries and related claim costs
  • Consolidate and report enterprise-wide wellness, safety and environmental performance metrics
  • Research safety and environmental specifications in relation to any hazard controls, equipment including personal protective equipment and make appropriate recommendations
  • Develop and monitor all Dynacare safety and environmental training material with a view to leveraging technology
  • Act in an advisory capacity on the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and ensure minutes of meetings are maintained
  • Certify health and safety trainers and deliver training programs when appropriate
  • Conduct all internal safety and environmental audits and develop corresponding audit recommendations
  • Provide managerial leadership in relation to all safety and environmental inspections and accreditations
  • Ensure ongoing effective positioning and integration of corporate wellness, safety and environmental programs and services
  • Liaise with the Purchasing Department in sourcing equipment and supplies for the improvement of our health and safety program
  • Provide on-going coaching and support for wellness, safety and environmental programs and services on a systems-wide basis
  • Provide managerial leadership to Wellness, Safety and Environmental direct reports
  • Liaise with the Purchasing Department in sourcing equipment and supplies for the improvement of our health and safety program

What YOU Bring To The Role

  • Demonstrate experience (minimum 3 years) and knowledge in leading and supporting a variety of occupational and environmental health safety & workplace health and wellness initiatives (preferably in a medical laboratory environment)
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or in progress or similar recognized accreditation
  • Previous certification as a Joint Health and Safety Committee member is an asset
  • Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation, such as, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations including WHMIS and the Ontario Human Rights Code and other Safety/Emergency Planning legislation
  • Experience in developing and implementing occupational and environmental health, safety and emergency management system programs
  • 5 to 8 years of related experience in employee wellness, health, safety and environmental management
  • Demonstrated skills in planning and delivering education/training programs to adults
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset
  • Intermediate computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical and negotiating skills
  • A team player, willing to listen, coach, advise and transfer knowledge
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in conjunction with strong people leadership skills
  • Capable of setting performance standards, exhibiting mature judgment and managing a team towards meeting and exceeding objectives
  • Demonstrate the ability to support and champion change, anticipates and deals effectively with resistance to change and demonstrate personal commitment to change through actions
