Job description

You’re resilient, confident, and driven, like all the best sales representatives and sales development professionals. Now, all you need is an opportunity to prove yourself. We have what you’ve been looking for. We’re HMA – The BENEFITS People (insert link or clarification if needed) and we have just the opportunity you’ve been looking for – we’re hiring for an Employee Benefits Consultant. A role where you can learn, achieve, and grow – in an essential industry that will never go out of style.

What you’ll be doing :

Your goal in this position is to help us achieve this growth by building our sales capacity, and by meeting and exceeding your objectives. You’re ready and willing to embrace the challenge of the industry, understanding the fundamental difference between selling an intangible versus an item off a store shelf. This means you’re confident and persistent – you’re not ashamed or afraid of failure, but rather embrace each challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. We want someone who is always working to perfect their craft, and who wants to take advantage of every training opportunity or program to do so.

On a practical level, you will be responsible for :

  • Assessing client needs and recommending employee benefits, life and living benefits, and assisting clients in planning and implementation of product solutions
  • Interacting with and educating potential and existing clients in the products that best suit their needs
  • Researching and sourcing various products and carriers to find the most suitable products for client needs
  • Sourcing and prospecting potential customers and creating interest in our firm and our products
  • Cross-selling and promoting additional HMA products (e.g., life / living benefits, pension, GRSP, etc.)
  • Securing sales of the above products by prospecting, setting appointments, identifying client pain points and budget, proposing solutions, obtaining commitment, and completing applications with payment
  • Attending bi-weekly sales meetings and other company/team meetings as scheduled
  • Reporting your prospecting progress to your Sales Manager weekly or bi-weekly
  • Satisfying continuing education requirements annually for industry licensing
  • Utilizing CRM (Hubspot) or other computer programs (TAM, Excel, etc.) to record activities, ensuring contact details are accurate, and logs are maintained
  • If assigned, attending Chamber of Commerce functions within your territory to become a known benefits advisor
Working @ HMA The BENEFITS People

This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our bright and cheerful Whitby office. You will spend most of your time out in the community, talking to potential and existing clients, but will always have a supportive base to return to. You will work Monday to Friday, and will receive a competitive salary, commensurate with experience and performance. Benefits include a comprehensive package, vacation time, and a technology allowance. We offer a wide scope for career growth, a strong company culture, community events, social outings, and team-building activities. Our team takes pride in their work, our company, and each other.

What makes you an ideal candidate :
  • Life / A&S license required
  • 1+ year in licensed sales role with proven results
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Experience working with CRM software (HubSpot experience is an asset)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in group benefits insurance / consulting is an asset
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Alignment with the organization’s core values
  • Self-motivated with goal achievement drive
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
