Overview

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) is located in the southern interior of British Columbia and provides smart, sustainable governance and services to its constituents throughout our 8,200 km2 region. Our head office is in the City of Trail, with nearby communities of Warfield, Montrose, Fruitvale and Rossland, home to a population of approximately 20,000.

The RDKB is currently seeking applications to fill a full-time Emergency Program Coordinator. The Coordinator is responsible for performing a wide range of emergency management tasks, exercising independent judgment across all elements of the emergency program and project management. This position consults with internal and external partners to review and develop plans and procedures, design and deliver training programs, and assist with the day-to-day operation of the RDKB Emergency Program. The Coordinator also coordinates and supports the administration, training, and development of staff and/or volunteer emergency teams to support response to planned and unplanned events. Supervisory responsibilities are a requirement of the position during EOC activations and while working with staff and volunteers. This position is a one-year contract renewing every year dependent on provincial government funding.

To be considered for this opportunity candidates must possess the following:

  • Completion of Grade 12 and supplemental training and considerable experience in the field of emergency management and emergency planning
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of emergency management in British Columbia, BC Emergency Response Management System, and the Incident Command System
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the local authority under the Emergency and Disaster Management Act
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to respond after-hours to emergencies in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) under high-stress conditions, often with short notice
  • Ability to learn and become adept in new computer programs and skills
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Teams
  • Experience in public safety education
  • Physical ability sufficient to perform job tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to act with tact and diplomacy, listen and collaborate while working with the public and coworkers
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's license
  • Must pass a satisfactory Canada Criminal Record Check
