Overview

Groves Memorial Community Hospital is recruiting for Emergency Department (ED) Physicians. Location: Fergus, ON (about 20 minutes north of Guelph). Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Locum.

Location and Facilities

The ED is supported by local GPs with Anesthesia, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Gynecology consultants. On-site facilities include X-ray, Ultrasound, Lab, and CT. ED volumes are approximately 60–80 visits per day. The hospital is a 44-bed acute care facility (surge to 50 beds) with two operating rooms, three L&D rooms, a CT scanner, and 24/7 ED operations.

Responsibilities and Opportunities
  • Provide emergency medical care in a rural community ED setting.
  • Participate in teaching opportunities as Groves is a teaching site for McMaster University Medical School.
  • Engage in on-site mentorship programs and potential on-call arrangements (HOCC funding available for on-call support).
Qualifications and Requirements
  • ACLS and ATLS are required; NRP/PALS encouraged.
  • FRCP/CCFP-EM is not required.
  • Comfort with rural Emergency Medicine.
  • Emergency physicians are eligible for the ED Mentorship Program with eligibility criteria including:
    • Valid CPSO Number.
    • Valid OHIP Billing Number.
    • Not previously participated in the ED Mentorship Program.
    • Not have worked in any Ontario ED hospital within the past year.
Incentives and Benefits
  • Financial incentives: Groves Hospital ER Physician Return of Service — $40,000 for 4-year return of service; full-time is defined as 1,440 hours/year of clinical work.
  • Flexible scheduling, electronic charting (PatientKeeper) with Meditech and PACS integration.
  • Free accommodation in town if needed; free hospital parking.
Additional Information

Restricted Registration information is available for residents in accredited residency programs seeking RR Program participation. The ED Mentorship Program funding supports up to four months at program start.
