Job summary

MDA Space in Brampton, Canada, is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer/MTS to design, implement, maintain and test safety-critical, real-time flight software. You will lead complex subsystem designs and mentor junior teammates to grow their skills.

You will collaborate with Systems, controls, electrical engineering, and manage requirements. Strong C/C++, bare-metal experience, and a degree in software/engineering are required.

The Role:

As our Embedded Software Engineer/MTS, you will be instrumental in using your skill and experience as part of a team to design, implement, maintain, and test safety critical, real-time flight software solutions that are modular, extendable, testable, and efficient. You will lead difficult and complicated subsystem designs and implementations helping to grow the skills of more junior teammates through mentoring and coaching.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and test embedded applications.
• Ensure designs are documented and well communicated.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (Systems, controls, electrical) to develop requirements/solutions.
• Review the work of teammates.
• Elicit requirements from various stakeholders/documents.
• Mentor and grow the skills of more junior team members via conversations, review of work products, explanation of design tradeoffs, etc.
• Support/Lead estimation efforts for new tasks.
• Collaborate with other seniors and management on the establishment, evolution, and enforcement of standards for coding, tools/environments, processes, etc.
• Other duties as will be assigned from time to time by management or a team lead.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Strong knowledge of C/C++
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Solutions implemented on bare metal.
• Proven ability to design and implement embedded software.
• Hands on experience with one or more of the following: FPGAs, RAM, ROM, Flash, and Microcontrollers
• Strong written/verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's or Graduate degree in software, Computer, or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Beneficial Skills/Experience:

• Real time Operating systems.
• Object oriented programming.
• Communications interfaces (SPI, EtherCAT, CANOpen, etc.)
• Familiarity with System on a Chip and integration with FPGAs
• Test driven development.
• Continuous integration/build automation

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.

The compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
