Job summary

MDA is seeking an Embedded Software Developer to join an agile team. You will architect, implement and document flight software for space applications including communications and satellites.

You will lead software design discussions with systems, digital, and RF teams, refine requirements, and drive integration and testing on flight units. Strong C/C++, Python skills and experience with RTOS are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded software development.
• Experience with networking protocols and RTOS is required.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python.
• Strong leadership in an agile environment and supplier management.

Responsibilities

• Lead a technical team within an agile development setting.
• Collaborate on software architecture for payload or satellite platform systems.

Role:

The Embedded Software Developer is part of an agile development team and is responsible for the architecture, implementation, and documentation of complex flight software modules for various space applications, including communications and satellites.

Responsibilities:

• Work with an agile team as a technical lead
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (systems, digital, RF) on software architecture and design for payload or satellite platform systems.
• Support flight code integration and testing within flight units
• Refine software requirements for your team or external suppliers
• Write the documentation necessary throughout the software life cycle
• Interact with customers and participate in proposals for new projects
• Act as a liaison between suppliers, the systems team, and the software team for issues related to payload/platform systems embedded software.
• Ensure the consistency of interface design at the software level between the various satellite subsystems
• Act as a leader in continuous improvement initiatives
• Implement embedded software (flight code)

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded software development
• Experience with networking and communication protocols necessary
• Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
• Programming in C, C++, Python
• Leadership in an agile environment
• Experience in supplier and subcontract management
• Experience with satellite platform subsystems (CDH, propulsion, navigation, power management, etc.)
• Experience in software integration of satellite payload/platform subsystems
• Experience working with complex SoCs
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
• Experience with version control systems such as GIT
• Very good communication in English or French
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Disciplined and resourceful

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge of satellite communication standards such as DVB-S2X
• Experience in RF systems
• Knowledge of CCSDS, MIL-STD-1553
• Knowledge of protocols such as CAN bus and SpaceWire
• Experience with Visual Studio or Eclipse
• Experience with JIRA and Confluence
• Experience with VectorCast
• Experience in embedded Linux
• Experience with formal software development (requirements, design, testing).
