What We Look For In a Elementary School Math Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of number sense, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic fractions and decimals, measurement, time, money, geometry shapes, patterns, and introductory data interpretation. Guides students through skip counting, place value understanding, basic geometric reasoning, and measurement conversions. Emphasizes discovery-based learning and connects math to everyday contexts like cooking, shopping, and telling time.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with elementary math standards for grades one through five and common challenges such as regrouping in subtraction, understanding fractions as parts of a whole, and memorizing multiplication facts. Adapts instruction using base-ten blocks, fraction strips, games, and multi-sensory approaches to support young learners at varying developmental readiness levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
