Project: Musselwhite

Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Travel: Flight from airport closest to point of hire to Thunder Bay - Chartered flight to site

Accommodation: Remote Camp setting

Job Summary

The primary role of an electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electric equipment some of which are noted below in all surface and underground areas:

  • Shops, warehouse, sub-level
  • Troubleshoot and repair ventilation fans
  • Lighting and electric/hydraulic equipment
  • Phone systems and all mine communication systems
  • PLC and other advanced or automation systems
  • High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage installation and equipment
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations
  • Assist with fabrication of electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables, when required
Responsibilities
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers
  • Perform safely and timely emergency repairs to equipment
  • Must follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
  • Have skills to help train new employees, apprentices, etc., in day-to-day operations and procedures for operating electrical test, maintenance, and installation equipment not requiring third‑party approvals
  • Communicate written and verbal instructions to subordinates

Health and Safety
  • Have authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Follow Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and report any unsafe acts or conditions
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work
  • Know and effectively use WHMIS legislation and MSDS sheets

Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area.

Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman electrician’s certificate (Red Seal) and provincial license as required
Work Experience
  • Experience in the installation of low, medium, and high voltage installation and repairs
  • 2–3 years underground experience an asset
Knowledge Required
  • Ability to multi‑task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Electrical installations, troubleshooting, construction and maintenance skills
  • Ability to supervise skilled and non‑skilled workers
