Job summary

A leading packaging manufacturer in Toronto is seeking an experienced Electrician to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on production machinery. This full-time position requires a valid Ontario Electrician's License and the ability to work 12-hour shifts. Candidates must have strong mechanical abilities and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will join a union after a probationary period and contribute to a safe manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

Job Type: Full-time

Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems on production machinery and building services. Supports management’s commitment to food safety and quality and compliance to appropriate laws, regulations and standards.

Day-to-Day Role
  • Follow all safety and GMP practices/standards
  • A valid and permanent Ontario Electrician's License (Industrial and/or Construction & Maintenance) is a must
  • Overhaul of existing and new production and building equipment and services
  • Demonstrated ability and qualifications to accurately and efficiently diagnose a problem and to take appropriate corrective measures to the point of installing design modifications to the electrical components of the equipment
  • Maintain electrical components of machinery in good working condition. Perform preventative maintenance on machinery as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Core Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to successfully perform and pass a technical test to measure mechanical abilities
  • Ability to work in compliance with the guidelines of the Good Manufacturing Principles
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, testing equipment, programmable controls, etc.
  • Ability to read and comprehend schematics, drawings and instruction, training and technical manuals
  • Aptitude and ability to examine a defective component and determine appropriate corrective measures
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including heavy lifting, climbing and working under extreme temperature conditions
  • Intense visual concentration and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent safety, work, and attendance record
  • Must be flexible to work 12-hour shifts on days or overnight

This is a unionized position. Upon completion of a probationary period, successful employees will be required to be part of a union.
