Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Electrical/Civil engineering or tech program.
  • 3–5+ years of progressive experience in traffic signal, roadway, and electrical design.
  • 3 years of direct traffic signal design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
  • Experience applying OTM Book 12, OPSD, and OPSS standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and develop traffic signal design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Perform electrical design activities associated with traffic signal systems and roadway infrastructure.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews with civil engineering and project delivery teams to support integrated project development.
  • Support project coordination activities through participation in client meetings, design discussions, and technical reviews.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable codes, standards, and transportation design requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and design support to junior engineers, technologists, and project team members.
  • Participate in field investigations, site reviews, and construction inspections to verify design implementation.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes through the review and development of engineering standards, templates, and design documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports and project deliverables to support engineering decision‑making and project execution.
  • Assist with problem‑solving and risk identification related to traffic signal and electrical infrastructure systems.

The Electrical Traffic Signal Designer supports the planning, design, and delivery of traffic signal and roadway electrical infrastructure projects in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Working within a multidisciplinary project environment, the role contributes to the preparation of engineering drawings, technical specifications, design reports, and contract documentation for municipal and transportation infrastructure assignments.

The position is involved throughout project development phases, including detailed design, design review, stakeholder coordination, field investigations, construction support, and quality assurance activities. Work is performed in accordance with transportation engineering requirements, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), OTM Book 12, OPSD, and OPSS standards.

The ideal candidate brings 3 to 5+ years of progressive experience in traffic signal and electrical infrastructure design, including direct exposure to traffic signal systems, roadway projects, and coordination with engineering and design teams within a regulated transportation environment.

Assets
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator.
  • Experience supporting municipal transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy‑efficient electrical design practices.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineering or design staff.
  • Additional exposure to roadway electrical systems and transportation corridor projects.
