Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor the activities of all electrical and preventative maintenance employees assigned.
- Ensure correct, accurate, and timely reporting of information on all maintenance Work Orders, including “Urgent Repairs”.
- Recommend solutions to problems related to the product or process, or to the quality system, and, when approved, participate in the implementation, management, and verification of those solutions.
- Provide technical and tactical support to the Maintenance Team, Engineer, Production, and Project Manager to maximize kiln efficiency and minimize unscheduled downtime.
- Participate in identifying training needs for assigned plant maintenance personnel and coordinate training.
- Ensure the execution of the daily maintenance plan to meet sales and production needs while maintaining efficient maintenance costs and explaining significant variances from the plan.
- Routinely monitor key performance indicators, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform supervisory and management personnel accordingly.
- Develop and implement training plans to ensure employees can perform their jobs safely and effectively.
- Provide leadership for improvements within the maintenance groups.
- Ensure the Management System is effective and well understood by all employees.
- Participate in daily production meetings to communicate with production and maintenance teams.
- Attend weekly scheduling meetings between maintenance and production.
- Participate in daily safety talks and maintenance meetings.
- Ensure personnel are proficient in using the CMMS / SAP maintenance modules.
- Supervise work quality and provide feedback to employees on their progress towards company expectations and goals.
- Lead efforts to ensure all safety rules and regulations are observed, including planning resources and monitoring safety programs.
- Participate in safety training for all assigned employees and interface with health and safety agencies as required.
- Follow up on safety investigations working with the Safety Committee.
- Ensure preventative actions are taken to prevent nonconformities related to product, process, or quality system.
- Guide and supervise capital project development and execution.
- Supervise garage and coordinate mobile equipment repairs as needed.
Qualifications
- Red Seal Industrial or Construction and Maintenance Electrician License.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 7+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing; mechanical and PM experience is an asset.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment, preferably in heavy manufacturing sectors like mining, steel, or utilities.
- Positive, proactive attitude with problem-solving skills; knowledge of material handling systems, pumps, PLCs, or Wonderware is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, including CMMS, MS Office, SAP, and Microsoft Project.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, results-driven, self-starter, with accountability and leadership abilities.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, blueprints, and write reports and correspondence.
- Experience leading operational excellence initiatives and demonstrating effective management skills.
- Strong team work ethic and a commitment to safety.
- Fluency in oral and written English.
