Job summary

Smith + Andersen in Winnipeg is seeking an Electrical Project Manager to lead major electrical building projects. You will prioritize tasks, manage a clear road map, and communicate with clients, consultants and contractors to keep everyone aligned. The role emphasizes leadership, schedule integrity, and responsibility for project scope and budgets. A senior background and Manitoba licensure are valued.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of project engineering experience in electrical building services.
• Registered Engineer in Manitoba.
• Senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience considered.
• Strong leadership and ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of provincial codes and standards (CSA, NFPA, ULC, IEEE, IES).

Responsibilities

• Develop system-engineering concepts and design reports within budgets.
• Coordinate with architects, interior designers and other disciplines.
• Prepare calculations and select equipment; assign tasks to designers as needed.
• Ensure documentation coordination across internal and external teams.
• Review deliverables for completeness and accuracy at development stages.
• Manage contract administration, change notices and schedule tasks.

What You'll Do

• Prepare, or assist Principal-in-charge with, the development of all system-engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept report. Review and manage the design in terms of construction budgets.
• Perform, or arrange for, reviews of existing installation and manage the impact on the project.
• Prepare all calculations and selects all equipment. May assign tasks to designer and CAD Technician where appropriate.
• Ensure proper coordination of document with the internal and external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).
• Review all deliverables for the project whether reports, calculations, drawings, or/and specifications. Review for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development and as defined by internal total quality management.
• Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
• Where requested by the Principal-in-charge or Associate Principal act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of all contract administration activities for project.
• Ensure that shop drawing review process takes place within project timelines.
• Coordinate with the contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, proper set up of contract administration process and site activities.
• Prepare all change notices or review change notices issued by contract administration team.
• Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed both accurately and with the assigned hours/fee.
• Respond to both technical and financial queries related to the project.
• Keep the Principal-in-charge or Associate Principal advised of all changes in scope of work and prepares amendments to the contract (e.g. Request of Additional fee-RAF) for review and submission to client.
• Ensure the internal project team discipline coordination processes are complete.
• Prepare and continually monitor a schedule of tasks required to complete the project including hours to perform tasks and critical data required for performance.
• Liaise with external consultants, vendors as required to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Support the process of accounts receivable.
• Organize and attend client meetings, including delivering presentations.

Who You Are

• Ten or more years of project engineering experience in the field of electrical building services.
• Registered Engineer in the province of Manitoba.
• A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
• Full understanding of Codes and Standards relevant for the project and is able to communicate all requirements to the internal project team, external project team, owner, and Authorities having Jurisdiction.
• Full understanding of (construction) project procurement methodologies and is able to recommend or apply such method for the project.
• Experience in health care facilities, including Infection Control Certification CAN/CSA Z312 and CSA Z32 would be an asset.
• Demonstrate a strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
• Demonstrate the ability to work in a complex environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
• Possess sound communications skills as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
• Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
• Knowledgeable about the provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES and NFPA standards.

Nice to Have

• LEED certification / Experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
