Job description

Progesys is a company recognized for its expertise in managing industrial projects and their optimal transition from construction to operation. The company is based in Laval (Canada) since 2002 and has offices in the United States, the Middle East, Asia and South America.

Progesys is looking for a Electrical Project Engineer for a mining project.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform corrective and predictive maintenance on a 60 MW electrical system at a gold mine, including MV/LV field equipment and HV substation assets
  • Ensure the reliability and maintenance of Hitachi substations, including reactive power and voltage control systems (SVCs).
  • Troubleshoot and maintain Schneider protection relays, switchgear, VFDs, and ABB ACS 1000/2000/6000 drives.
  • Execute Management of Change processes, including project design reviews, documentation updates, and compliance verification.
  • Diagnose and configure PLC logic, protection relay settings, and instrumentation/control devices (Endress & Hauser, level transmitters, plugged chute detectors)
  • Demonstrate strong mining operations knowledge (brownfield experience) and familiarity with mine electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Interpret and update technical drawings and documentation such as SLDs, schematics, and general arrangements.
  • Support backup power systems, including Wajax diesel generators and black-start procedures, with potential interaction with IESO operations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Mill Electrical Maintenance Team, providing technical guidance while working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Use Microsoft SharePoint, Office, and Teams for reporting, documentation, and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mining or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards.
  • Experience with power distribution, motor controls, and automation systems.
  • Excellent communication skills for client-facing interactions and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple MOC works concurrently.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and safety regulations specific to electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to work on-site in a 14/14 rotation.
