Job summary

Plains is seeking an Electrical/Instrumentation Technician to support Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and surrounding areas. The role reports to the Area Supervisor in Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, ensuring stations, terminals, and gathering systems run safely and efficiently with modern equipment.

Qualifications

  • Certified Interprovincial Electrical Journeyperson or dual-ticketed as Instrumentation and Control Technician.
  • 5–10 years' gas plant, refinery, pipeline, or oilfield experience.
  • PLC experience is a strong asset.
  • Computers: Maximo, MS Word/Excel, Outlook.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and safety-focused mindset.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract.
  • Background checks and drug/alcohol policy compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission electrical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Apply Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
  • Inspect and test instruments to diagnose faults.
  • Consult manuals, diagrams, and blueprints for procedures.
  • Provide electrical support to ensure system reliability.
  • Document work with orders, reports, and calibration sheets.
  • Provide on-call support during non-business hours.
  • Support operations, projects, and turnarounds.

Plains is looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical / Instrumentation Technician to support our Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and area facilities. Reporting to the Area Supervisor as a key member of the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls department, you'll play an essential role in keeping our stations, terminals, and gathering systems running safely, reliably, and at peak efficiency. You'll work with modern equipment, have the autonomy to solve problems in the field, and be part of a team that values craftsmanship, safety, and pride in doing the job right.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission electrical equipment such as PLCs, instrumentation, motor control centers, motors, switchgear, VFDs, MOVs, HVACs, and other electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Understand and apply Canadian Electrical Code requirements.
  • Inspect and test the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using electrical and electronic devices.
  • Consult manufacturer manuals, circuit diagrams, and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide electrical support and maintenance to ensure system reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance for all electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Complete all written and electronic records (work orders, maintenance reports, calibration sheets, time entry, material requests, drawings) required to document work in progress and upon completion.
  • Provide on‑call support during non‑business hours for emergency response and maintenance break‑ins.
  • Provide technical input and scope development for operations, projects, and turnarounds.
Qualifications:
  • Certified Interprovincial Electrical Journeyperson or dual‑ticketed as an Instrumentation and Control Technician
  • 5-10 years' prior gas plant, refinery, pipeline, or oilfield experience
  • PLC experience considered a strong asset
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (Maximo preferred), MS Word / Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and optimization skills
  • Self‑motivated and energetic with effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals in a busy field environment
  • Strong focus on safety and accountability for safety performance
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy including pre‑employment D&A testing
