Job summary

Black & McDonald Limited’s Scarborough-based Electrical Estimator role is part of the Mechanical & Electrical ICI team, focusing on electrical estimating for construction projects. You will prepare cost estimates, advise on tenders, and maintain supplier/contractor networks while liaising with engineers, owners and subcontractors.

Candidates should have 5+ years in electrical estimating, a relevant program graduate, and proven ability to work with deadlines in a collaborative, safety-conscious

Qualifications

• Electrical estimating or construction program graduate required.
• Several years of experience in electrical construction estimating.
• Knowledge of tendering procedures and cost analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
• Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards
• Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
• Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Electrical Estimator is located in Scarborough and typically reports directly to the Chief Estimator. The Estimator will be responsible for all aspects of estimating and will ensure strict adherence to B&M policies and procedures relating to the estimating process. The Estimator shall also liaise with customers to ensure continuity of work opportunities and with vendors to maintain competitiveness within the industry. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
• Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards
• Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of electrical estimating or construction program
• Several years’ experience working in the electrical construction sector

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years’ experience in estimating electrical ICI construction work or on P3 projects

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

• Estimate closure

The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 - $110,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual discretionary bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
