Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) is seeking an Engineering Student to join the Facilities Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls teams in Calgary, AB. The role focuses on design, construction, modification, operation and optimization of oil and gas facilities during an 8‑month term.

You will work with cross‑functional teams, applying engineering principles and Lean Six Sigma concepts to drive reliability improvements.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or technologist program in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation or Controls preferred).
  • Within one year of graduation or current enrollment status stated by the program.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Apply electrical, instrumentation and/or controls engineering principles to develop solutions for the conventional or thermal oil and gas business units.
  • Collaborate with teams on reliability focused improvements and Lean Six Sigma initiatives.

The Opportunity

As an Engineering Student working on either our Facilities Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls team, you will gain experience in the design, construction, modification, operation and optimization of oil and gas facilities. You will gain exposure to different types of facilities and electrical, instrumentation and controls designs used in Canadian Natural’s Western Canada business.

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta – Head Office
  • Work schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours per day (Monday – Friday)
  • Term lengths: 8 months
  • Term start: January and May 2027
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes
Key Accountabilities
  • Apply electrical, instrumentation and/or controls engineering principles to develop solutions for the conventional or thermal oil and gas business units
  • Work with various teams on reliability focused improvements and initiatives through the application of Lean Six Sigma principles
What You Bring To The Role
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or Technologist Program in Engineering or within one year of graduation (Electrical, Instrumentation or Controls disciplines preferred)
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license
