Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to support BoP activities for renewable energy facilities in North America. You will perform arc-flash assessments, review protection system designs, and compile reliability data with a focus on continuous operation of wind and solar assets.

Engage with senior engineers and vendors to drive root-cause analyses, implement predictive maintenance, and deliver formal reports and KPIs to stakeholders across WECC/NERC contexts.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer or Specialist supporting BoP activities with renewables.
• Proficient in reading electrical drawings and reviewing protection system design and coordination.
• Experience with CSA/IEEE/ANSI standards for MV and HV equipment and NETA testing standards.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and vendors to perform arc-flash assessments for wind and solar facilities in North America.
• Conduct in-house arc-flash assessments using EasyPower and compile performance and maintenance data.
• Monitor BoP reliability for transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and power cables.
• Provide engineering support and develop status reports and KPIs for maintenance activities.
• Lead root-cause analyses of electrical issues with turbine components and HV/MV equipment.
• Apply predictive maintenance techniques and prepare formal reports on protection system operation.

Job description

• Collaborate with Senior BoP Power Engineers, Plant Managers, Turbine Vendors, and Consultants to perform arc-flash assessments for wind and solar facilities in North America
• The successful candidate must also be able to conduct in-house arc-flash assessments using tools such as EasyPower
• Compile operational data and performance reports, including equipment status, maintenance logs, and compliance supporting data, while supporting Senior BoP Power Engineers and the reliability compliance team
• Monitor and manage the reliability of BoP systems, including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and power cables, ensuring the safe and continuous operation of renewable energy facilities
• Leverage predictive maintenance techniques (e.g., thermal imaging, condition monitoring) to anticipate potential failures and plan proactive maintenance to prevent issues before they arise
• Enhance expertise in power system protection by performing in-house BoP protection system operation assessments and issuing formal reports
• Work with equipment vendors and external collaborators to lead in-depth root cause analyses of ongoing electrical issues with turbine components and high/medium-voltage (HV/MV) equipment
• Develop your expertise by providing engineering support to assets installed across various jurisdictions, including WECC, SERC, TRE, NPCC, IESO, and AESO
• Develop, prepare, and present status reports and key performance indicators to effectively communicate the progress and state of maintenance activities

Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer or Specialist supporting BoP activities with exposure to renewables along with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and a P.Eng designation
• Read and manage electrical drawings and have experience in reviewing and analyzing protection system design, including its operation and coordination activities
• Familiar with applying CSA/IEEE/ANSI standards for medium and high voltage equipment, as well as NETA standards for testing activities while also having experience with electrical components, such as switchgear and transformers
